Default Short Stories For The Soul

    [#1 - A Wicked Twist]

Ian was oblivious to the world, immersed entirely in the world of cyberspace whilst the train chugged it's way slowly up the mountainside, creaking and groaning like an unoiled door. Ian looked up when the train came to a sudden halt at the peak, teetering near the edge of mountain. What the.. An ominous aura spread throughout the train like wildfire and people were getting increasingly anxious. Are we all going to die?

An ear-piercing screech of metal against metal broke the silence and suddenly, the train flipped on its side and spun out of control. Baggages fell from overhead compartments while the train hurtled down the mountainside at breathneck speed. Everyone was screaming and scrambling to shield themselves from the impact. Ian felt himself fly off his seat and crashed headfirst onto the floor. Everything went dark...

Am I still alive? Ian looked around groggily at the mass of debris and burnt bodies. He noticed two silhouettes standing close to him. They felt familiar to him and he struggled to make out who they were. When realisation struck him that they were his parents, he felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. This is insane.. Where am I? His parent's hands were outstretched towards him, beckoning him to come to them..

In the distance, a distinct glow slower neared him and grew brighter. I cannot just leave like this! What about Emma? What about my unborn child? Ian choked back tears and struggled to crawl away from the light, feeling pathetic and helpless. Sorry Mum. Sorry Dad. I cannot abandon Emma.. The light came closer and closer, casting a soft, warm glow on Ian's legs. I must.. I must not die... Ian willed himself to continue despite the pain that shot throughout his body. Desperate, Ian started crying as he tried to escape from the clutching fingers of the light by increasing his speed, but to no avail.. I have to survive... A white flash blinded Ian and he screamed an endless wail.

Ian felt a warm towel wrap around him. He felt triumph. He felt that he had cheated death. Ian opened his eyes and found himself staring straight into a bright light overhead. "Congratulations, Emma! You have just given birth to a baby boy!". Ian screamed.
